Mother’s Day Planner Printable

Mother’s day is a celebration of the mothers in your life. This could be your mother, the mother to your kids, the mother to your grandkids or any other mother that needs celebrating. Us moms just want a day to relax, spend some quality time together and know that our family appreciate us. If you’re the one searching for this, you will likely be the person to arrange all this. With this planner, it’ll be easier than you think! Try to involve the kids so that they feel the pride of planning a special day for their mother.

Spend Time Together

This day is about spending time as a family, having fun and being relaxed. It’s up to you to figure out the best way for this to happen. Don’t over plan the day but pick 1-3 of the activities listed below to make it a memorable day.  Make sure to take the time to sit and enjoy everyone’s company. My husband allows each kid to pick one activity to do as a family and plans that with that child. Some ideas:

  • Let her sleep in and have breakfast ready later in the morning
  • Make dinner or brunch for family (and clean up)
  • Go out for dinner or brunch
  • Pack a picnic for the park
  • Have family over to celebrate all the mothers
  • Go pick out flowers at a greenhouse
  • Take a hike or walk by a lake
  • Go to a movie
  • Go play golf/mini golf

Bonus points if you make the event a tradition year after year (just make sure the mother enjoys it!). This tradition will be looked back upon with fond memories from the mother, the kids and yourself. Plus, it will make your life easier every year because you already have that planned! A friend of mine’s family go to a greenhouse every Mother’s Day to pick out a bunch of flowers and then go home to plant them in containers.  This is the event and the gift all wrapped up together!

The Handmade Gift

This should be something that doesn’t cost a lot of money (or no money at all) but shows that the kids or yourself took the time to make something for the mother. In younger kids, this is usually done through a homemade card or a craft that they did at daycare. In older or adult kids, this can be a card they picked out with a personalized message in it.  Add in messages that show that you love, are grateful and appreciate this mother. This gift shows how special the mother is.

Other ideas:

  • videotape a message from the kids or yourself to send early in the morning to start the day off
  • Take a picture of the kids and yourself and send it to the mother with a “thank you for all you do” message
  • Write a song, poem or make up a dance for the mother
  • Look for printable coloring pages or About mom pages that the kids can fill out

The Gift

The gift is really dependent on the mother. Most mothers that I know don’t want an elaborate gift. They really just want some quiet and for everyone to get along. But you need to get a gift and the gift should reflect who they are or what they need. Ask them if they want something in particular. I know I like to give ideas for things that I would like because then I get what I like and they don’t have the stress of figuring it out. If they don’t give you an idea, here is some ideas from me:

Gifts to relax:

  • Spa gift certificate for massage, facial or body wrap
  • New bathrobe
  • Essential oils and diffuser
  • Hammock
  • Bath shelf
  • Soft blanket
  • Tea mug and tea
  • Meditation pillow and CD
  • Coloring books
  • Hire a house cleaner for spring cleaning

Hobby Related Gifts:

  • Gardening gear (flowers, gloves, planters, etc)
  • Herb gardens
  • Workout/yoga/sports gear

Clothing and Accessories

Try your best to give the mom a day off from real life. It’s exhausting being her so do what you can to make her life easy. Most important, sit with her and just be in the moment. This means putting your phone away and turning off the TV. If it’s nice outside, go for a walk together. Forget about all the chores that need to be done and concentrate on being together.
